Burn Permits: How do I get one? When do I need one?

When should I call for a permit?

Plan ahead, the Greenland fire department is staffed entirely by volunteers.  Contact the Fire Warden or one of the Deputy Fire Wardens, to request a burn permit at least 24-hours prior to the start of your burn.  Burn permits requested with less than 24-hours notice may not be issued.  Before starting a brush fire you must have a signed burn permit in hand.

Do I need a burn permit for a Chiminea, Fire Pit, Outdoor Fireplace?

You bet!  For information about permits for chimineas and  fire pits click here.  Next, contact the Fire Warden or one of the Deputy Fire Wardens and request a seasonal burn permit.  (This is not a permit to burn brush.)

How do I get a permit to burn brush?

First, read the rules about brush burning.  Next, contact the Fire Warden or one of the Deputy Fire Wardens and request a burn permit.

Safety First!

Ask the members of your household where they would meet if there was a fire in the home.  Make sure everyone names the same meeting place.
